Action Plan

Dear Sir,

Greetings from Allahabad!

The IAP Allahabad branch organized the AMS – Anti Microbial Stewardship Module under the IAP action plan 2019 on 11th of August, Sunday, at the Department of Pediatrics, Moti Lal Nehru Medical College & S.N. Children Hospital Allahabad. A learned faculty of Master Trainers comprisingDr. H. P. Singh and Dr. Jyoti Singh from Rewa, Dr Piyush Gupta, UCMS Delhi and the National Coordianator of the AMS Module, himself, Dr Sanjay Ghorpade.

The National Coordinator of the AMS Module Dr Sanjay Ghorpade graced the occasion as theGuest of Honor and addressed the august gathering. He emphasized on the need Antimicrobial Stewardship. He said that Antimicrobial Stewardship is the effort to improve antibiotic prescribing by clinicians, minimize misdiagnoses or delayed diagnoses and to ensure the right drug, right dose, right duration of antibiotic when needed.

Dr. H. P. Singh spoke on AMR (Antimicrobial resistance) and vaccines and highlighted the fact that a globally integrated strategy that includes antibiotics, vaccines, diagnostics, antibodies and new tools targeting the host, the microbiome, or delivered by phases is required to fight AMR effectively.

Dr. Jyoti Singh spoke emphatically on AMS in outpatient and chalked out the four elements namely, commitment; Action for policy and practice by remaining updated, improve antibiotic prescribing and implementing one policy at a time; Tracking of Antibiotic use and reporting and finally educating the patients and families on appropriate antibiotic use.

Dr. Piyush Gupta mesmerized the audience with his oratory skills as he spoke on AMS in inpatient. He defined the seven core elements of inpatient AMS namely, Leadership commitment from administration, a single leader responsible for outcomes, a single pharmacy leader, tracking of antibiotic use, regular reporting of antibiotic use and resistance, educating providers on use and resistance and specific improvement and interventions

45 pediatricians of the city registered and attended the academic event and pledged for Anti Microbial Stewardship and responsible use of antibiotics. The program was a great success.
